I hate getting old. I am only 26, I know I'm not old. But I think that 25 is the last little bit of indestructible youth. I still expect to be young for another 10 years or so, but my body's prime has passed.
I wake up and my legs are stiff and my joints crack. I think about taxes, credit, buying a house and of becoming a father.
Wait. WHAT? What happened to drinking until 4am? I don't know anybody that sells or smokes weed anymore. Shit I don't know anybody that drinks anymore. I only have one tattoo!
For any of you youngster reading this, live it up. Burn the candle at both ends, travel to Europe; Japan. Experiment with drugs, boys and girls. Adventure. You're never as young as you are right now.
If you don't like where you, leave and go somewhere else. It's ok to move to a new city with nothing and no one. It's easy to find a shitty job and make friends. Please please know that the older you get the harder it is to do things like that. It's not impossible, it never is, but it's more and more difficult. You'll thank yourself in 5 years that you did that one awesome adventurous spontaneous thing when you were 22. Create good memories.

Um...word.
I only have 4 tattoos! And I only stay up late for 4 months out of the year, instead of the minimum 10 of yore!
I think we will be righteous parents. I have no regrets.
first of all: the song is great. neil young is great.
second of all: i'm 22, (possibly moving to ny) and i'm going to go out and find some unsuspecting boy or girl to fuck. immediately. you're words have not fallen on deaf ears.
thirdly: i agree with j. i cannot wait to see what kind of crazy awesome child you guys squirt out.
I got dibs on corrupting your kids first! Though I'll accept Cas' help on that too.
At this point, I'm more worried about which of our friends won't be corrupting our children...
Lord. I feel like I never do anything adventurous (except uproot my life and move thousands of miles away from everyone I know). I don't feel old yet, but I can feel it looming...
So does everyone agree that 25 is about the time that youth slips away?
As an expert here, I have to say that I'm still waiting for that to happen- thankfully.
My youth never slipped away. It tried to run- but I caught it, tied it up, and now I keep in in a box in the basement.
It ain't goin' anywhere.
age notwithstanding, youth has passed you by when you go to a college party and you stand out as "the old guy". luckily for me, though I don't look like I did when I was 21 (no more babyface for me) I can still pull it off, at least for now. Ed norton from Fight Club had the best quote: "I'm a 30 year old boy."
I love people who think like you. You think the way I have always wanted to think. Your post made me think about what I am doing in life and why I'm not doing what I really want. So thanks:)
Just to comment on your mentality though- don't think too much about age just go with the flow. Changes will happen naturally. I will be awaiting the day when I no longer want to party and drink and do drugs and travel all over and be young and lively. One day I will desire to be calm and settled and have a family and a career and a mortgage. Or maybe not. But whatever you want at any given present moment is what you want and what you shall aim for. And that't that. You're never too young or too old to do what you want. And it's only difficult if you make it.
